HEARTS is a research project evaluating Ariel Trust’s Face Up programme. The Big Lottery Fund has commissioned the Dartington Social Research Unit to carry out this evaluation within the UK-wide Realising Ambition project.

We are currently running a pilot randomised trial of the intervention involving schools from Leeds and Oldham and are looking for more secondary schools, across the UK, to get involved.  Would your school be interested?  We are looking for mainstream schools who would be interested in delivering the Face Up 2016 programme to the whole of Year 9 during the Autumn Term in 2016.

Please click here for a detailed description of the project.

The benefits to your school

  • Free access to the Face Up 2016 resource (or another resource, if you are allocated to the control group)
  • Training for your teachers to support them to implement the programme

What we need in return

  • Be willing to deliver Face Up 2016 to Year 9 during Autumn Term as part of your PSHE delivery
  • Commit to 8 lessons (approx 7 hours) delivery + the completion of questionnaires before and after the study, estimated to take 30-40 minutes each time (it is not necessary to complete these in one sitting)
  • Be prepared to be allocated to the control group - in this case you will have the option to deliver Face Up to a different year group or alternatively our online safety programme, CyberSense
  • Attend a teacher training session in Leeds during June/July (we hope to organise a second date in Manchester or Oldham, if more convenient)

If you would like to find out more about the study or to express an interest in becoming involved please email Trish Conning and she will be happy to arrange to speak to you further.  More information can also be found here.

The full report on the impacts of the programme will be published in Summer 2017.
