‘A Knock at the Door’ reintroduces children to the characters from ‘Send me a Selfie’ and imagines the scenario has moved on and Megan and Chris have begun sharing inappropriate images.
The resource explores the law in relation to the sharing of indecent images and looks at the possible consequences for both characters, and their families, when there is a knock at the door. Given the content of the programme, we recommend that it is used as an upper Key Stage 2 programme, possibly as part of planning for transition to secondary education.
The animation starts at that moment that the Police knock on the doors at both Megan and Chris’ homes, and explores the impacts this might have on their parents. This provides an opportunity to explore the law in relation to sharing images and how this might come to the Police’s attention, including through social media companies reporting concerns.
Quickly the sessions focus on the forum theatre techniques associated with rewinding the action, and the majority of the content explores ways that Megan and Chris could have made different decisions and avoided the Police becoming involved. There is a focus on developing and rehearsing help-seeking behaviours, particularly on having difficult conversations with your parents. This focus on conversations with parents or other safe adults provides a perfect opportunity for engaging parents in the programme, and our portal includes resources that support you to deliver this element.
