Heritage Lottery Fund

Anti-Social Behaviour in the 1950s

HL:

This is an inter-generational project that will enable young people from Bootle to explore their heritage. This social history project will bring together young people and older residents from the area to explore the similarities and differences between the behaviour of young people today and in the 1950s.

The young people will learn to use a range of multimedia techniques that they will use to capture the memories of the older residents. They will use digital audio techniques and interview skills to capture oral histories. They will also use photographic skills to produce digital storyboards that illustrate the stories.

The memories captured will be used to produce an exhibition that will show a comparison between teenagers in the 1950s and the current day. The exhibition will tour a number of local venues including the Sefton Library and Brunswick Youth Club. The resources will also be brought together as an educational CD-ROM that will be distributed to all the primary schools in the South Sefton area. The CD will enable teachers to use the resource as part of the history curriculum.

The project aims to bring together different generations in a positive project that will promote a greater sense of community in the area. The young people involved will also learn a range of transferable multimedia and communication skills.
