Next week will see the start of the last ‘Introduction into Media’ course, after Ariel Trust has delivered a series of successful courses for disadvantaged adults.
These courses are developed to help vulnerable adults build confidence in order to help them integrate back into society, through developing skills and knowledge in multimedia.
From Vox-Pops, to using digital editing software, the course offers new skills that will lead to an open college qualification in Radio production.
On the last course 75% of the pupils passed, gaining a recognised qualification that may open up job opportunities in the future.
Dean, a former student said: “The course helped me to be less lazy because I was just lying in bed all the time, plus I like doing this, the radio work, I’m more comfortable with it.”
There was a large change in the student’s confidence with 85% of pupils improving on their confidence skills.
A student on the last course observed: “My confidence built up every week on the Women into Media course, because we needed to go into the street to do some vox pops and it’s not easy to speak to strangers. My self esteem increased also.”
The course hopes to also offer inspiration for students to venture out into the wider world to find work which they enjoy doing.
Some students who have completed the course have gone on to further job and education opportunities.
A few have gone onto college for further studies, one has been given work experience at Radio City and a few students have taken up positions as mentors for future sessions on the course.
For the past two courses, all the work the students completed from interviews and vox pops was condensed into a one hour show that was broadcast across Liverpool on CityTalk 105.9FM.
To enable the course to carry on and offer adults this opportunity, funds are needed to keep the course innovative and exciting for students.
We are certain that these courses have had a huge impact on these student’s lives. It is essential that the course continues in order to help those who need to build in confidence to hopefully get back into employment.
